BUFFALO, NY -
Breanna Knight (Valley Stream,NY/Valley Stream South) scored the game winning goal just two minutes after
Tianna Hatch (Endicott,NY/Elmira Free Academy) put the Bengals on the board to lift Buffalo State (7-7-2, 4-4 SUNYAC) to a 2-1 victory over visiting New Paltz (8-7-2, 2-4-2 SUNYAC) today in a SUNYAC match up.
Buffalo State controlled much of the first half outshooting New Paltz 11-4. The Bengals nearly took the lead with 20 minutes remaining in the first half when Hatch headed a corner kick from
Katie Shaw (Burt,NY/Newfane) that went just wide of the right post.
In the second half,
Gabrianna Boldinski (Tonawanda,NY/Kenmore East) ripped a pass from 40 yards that Hatch headed just under the cross bar to give the Bengals the lead in the 71st minute.
Two minutes later, New Paltz fouled Buffalo State just outside the box to set up a free kick for the Bengals, and Knight scored her fifth goal of the season sending it into the top right corner of the net.
The Bengals fouled inside the box, setting up a penalty kick that Eleni Anselmi sent past a diving
Nicole Torres(Wantagh,NY/MacArthur) to cut Buffalo State's lead to one in the 77th minute. The Hawks had control in the closing minutes, but the Bengals defense stayed strong to preserve the victory.
Torres recorded the win in net, making five saves and improving to 3-2-1 on the season.
Buffalo State will host Oneonta tomorrow at 10 a.m. for the final SUNYAC game of the regular season. A win against the Red Dragons would secure a home playoff game.  A tie and some help could also produce a home postseason contest.
