Men’s Soccer Closes Season with Win at Nazareth, 2-1

ROCHESTER, NY—Freshmen Francis Garces (E. Elmhurst/Xavier) and Sam Wasson (Clarence/Clarence) each netted their first collegiate goals to push visiting Buffalo State (6-10-2) past Nazareth (5-11), 2-1, to close out the Bengals' 2014 season.

Buffalo State outshot the Golden Flyers 10-4 in the opening half, but was still locked in a scoreless draw entering the second half.  The Bengals then found themselves in a hole when Nazareth opened the scoring in the 48th minute.

Garces evened the score in the 66th minute, however, when he connected on a corner kick from Tristan Myers (Webster/Webster Thomas).  Buffalo State continued to push the pace of play, and Wasson netted the game-winner less than three minutes later.

Buffalo State finished with a 23-11 advantage in shots for the game, but 11 saves by the Nazareth goalkeeper kept the Bengals from pulling away.  Senior Ian Huntoon (Stamford, CT/West Hill) finished with four saves to record the victory in his final game as a Bengal.
