BUFFALO, NY – Junior Gabrianna Boldinski's (Tonawanda, NY/Kenmore East) second half goal helped Buffalo State (7-7-4) take St. John Fisher (6-10-1) into overtime, but the non-conference game ended in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday afternoon at Coyer Field. The Bengals final regular season home game was also recognized as Senior Day for Megan Chapple (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) and Liz Malinowski (Williamsville, NY/Williamsville South).
The Bengals opened up strong offensively in the first half. Buffalo State recorded five shots in the first 24 minutes, but could not find the back of the net. The Cardinals managed to gain a few scoring opportunities towards the end of the half, but the Bengal defense and goalkeeping kept things even.
St. John Fisher opened up scoring in the second half. With the ball slowly crossing the box, Taryn Guinta managed to get her foot on the ball and slip it past Jessica McCarey (Middletown, NY/Middletown) to take the lead at 54:35.
Boldinski had a header off a corner kick in the 62nd minute that sailed just high. Chapple followed with another great shot, but St. John Fisher goalkeeper Brooke Seavitt came up with the save.
Despite being down a goal, the Bengals continued to push the ball on offense. Boldinski tied things up with a goal in the 70th minute off of a great pass from Micky Tinnerman (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca).
In overtime, the Bengals remained in control of possession. In two overtime periods, Buffalo State outshot the Cardinals 7-1. However, time ran out before the Bengals could find the back of the net.
Nicole Torres (Wantagh, NY/MacArthur) started in goal for the Bengals, playing the first half and making one save. McCarey played the remaining 65 minutes, making one save and recording the tie.
The Bengals finished the game with a 20-8 advantage in total shots and a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Buffalo State returns to action at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Fredonia for the first round of SUNYAC playoffs.
