CORTLAND, NY—No. 6 Buffalo State (7-8-5) saw its season come to an end in the SUNYAC semifinals for the third time in five years, falling 1-0 at No. 2 Cortland (7-8-2) today at Jets Field.
The Bengals held a narrow 6-5 advantage in shots in the opening period and had the best chance to score of the opening half.
Victoria Colotti (New Windsor/Newburgh Free) sent a shot toward the Cortland goal from 10 yards out when a Red Dragon field player reached up with her hand and pulled the ball off the line. The referee whistled the play down, but then awarded Cortland a goal kick.
Cortland finally broke the draw in the 57th minute when Rachel Parker sent a ball over the head of Buffalo State goalkeeper
Nicole Torres (Wantagh/MacArthur) from 18 yards.
The Bengals created a couple of opportunities down the stretch, but could not convert, as a shot by Megan Allen (Big Flats/Corning East) that sailed high just under two minutes remaining proved to be the final chance to tie the game.
Buffalo State and Cortland finished the game with 10 shots apiece, and Torres made three saves for the Bengals.
