Sam Parente (E. Patchogue/Bellport) tallied 21 kills to make sure her career would not end today as she paced sixth-seeded Buffalo State (25-10) to a four-set victory over third-seeded Cortland (17-18) in a SUNYAC quarterfinal match hosted by New Paltz.
The Bengals seemingly received a wake-up call, dropping the first set, 16-25, before dominating over the final three sets, winning 25-14, 25-17 and 25-18.
Parente led the attack, finishing just one kill shy of a career best with 21 and a .281 attack percentage.
Kayla Pyc (Grand Island/Grand Island) provided support for the offense with 11 kills.
Courtney White (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) finished with eight kills and two blocks, and
Jessica Crooks (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) had six kills and five blocks.
Rachelle Kelchlin (West Seneca/St. Mary's) posted a new career best with 28 digs.
Jennifer Cecchettini (Hamburg/Frontier) finished with 29 assists and 13 digs, and
Britt Hallett-Jonathan (Basom/Akron) added 15 assists and eight digs.
Buffalo State will next face No. 2 Fredonia in tomorrow's conference semifinals at 3 p.m.
