Women’s Basketball Drops SUNYAC Opener at Cortland, 87-67

CORTLAND, NY— Olivia Luciani (E. Syracuse/E. Syracuse-Minoa) poured in a game-high 19 points, but it was not enough as Buffalo State (2-3/0-1) fell to host Cortland (5-1/1-0), 87-67, in tonight's SUNYAC season opener.

Luciani finished 7 of 10 from the field, including 5 of 8 from 3-point range.   Ashley Wallace (Lockport/Starpoint) added 16 points and nine rebounds, while Brittnee Perry (Buffalo/Hutch Tech) netted eight points, all in the second half.  Hillary Kollar (Johnstown/Johnstown) chipped in seven points and eight rebounds.

Buffalo State scored the first five points of the game, but Cortland quickly took control, leading by as many as 20 before taking a 48-31 lead into the locker room at halftime.  The Red Dragons pushed their lead to 25 early in the second half before the Bengals rallied to cut the margin to 14 at 72-58 with roughly five minutes remaining, but they could not come any closer.

Cortland received 35 points off the bench, compared to just 17 from the Bengals' reserves.  The Red Dragons finished the game shooting 59-percent from the field and were 6 of 12 from long range.  The Bengals shot 37-percent from the floor and were 6 of 21 from beyond the arc.

Buffalo State will visit Oswego for another SUNYAC game tomorrow at 4 p.m.
