BUFFALO, NY – Sophomore guard Jordan Glover (Buffalo, NY/St. Joes) tallied seven three pointers and a team-high 25 points, but Buffalo State (4-6, 1-4 SUNYAC) fell to Plattsburgh (8-3, 3-1 SUNYAC) 94-89 in a conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Sports Arena.
Glover led the way for the Bengals offensively, tallying 25 points and six assists. Chris Cartwright (Binghamton, NY/Binghamton) added 24 points and seven rebounds, while Lovell Smith (Buffalo, NY/McKinley) chipped in 15 points and narrowly missed recording a double-double with nine boards. Roderick Epps (Uniondale, NY/Uniondale) scored 14 points and Larry Rivers (Syracuse, NY/Fowler) pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds.
Buffalo State started out the game strong, going on a 13-2 run, but Plattsburgh quickly answered with a 14-4 run and held onto control into halftime. In the first half, the Cardinals took advantage of Bengal turnovers and recorded a 12-0 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Cardinals also shot well from the floor hitting 50% (15-30) of their shots.
In the opening minutes of the second half, Plattsburgh continued to carry its lead, going up by 13 at 14:51. However, the Bengals would chip away at the Cardinals and tie things up off of a Cartwright layup with 10:35 left to play. Two back-to-back three pointers from Glover put the Bengals back on top with a four point lead, but the Cardinals once again answered back and used an 11-0 run to regain the lead that they would not relinquish.
Buffalo State finished the night shooting 43.9% (29-66) from the floor, 50% (13-26) from long range and 66.7% (18-27) from the free throw line. The Bengals outrebounded the Cardinals 41-37, including a 14-7 margin for offensive boards. Plattsburgh was 54.1% (33-61) from the floor, 47.4% (9-19) from the three point line and 70.4% (19-27) from the free throw line.
The Bengals return to action at Sage College in Troy, NY on Tuesday for a 1 p.m. non-conference matchup against Pine Manor.
