NORTHFIELD, VT – Five different Buffalo State (4-6-2) men's ice hockey players scored goals to easily lead the Bengals past Neumann (6-3-2) 5-2 in a non-conference matchup on Friday night during the opening round of the Northfield Savings Bank Holiday Tournament hosted by Norwich. Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) led the offense with two points off a goal and an assist, while Jake Rosen (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) also tallied two points with two assists.
The Bengals took control of the game early as Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/Blenheim) scored an unassisted goal 1:13 into play.
Just over three minutes later,the Knights took advantage of their power play to tie things up, but Nick Berst (Depew, NY/Lancaster) followed up with a goal at 11:55 to give Buffalo State back the lead that it would keep. Nearing the end of the first period, Ryan Salkeld (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland) added another goal to push the Bengals lead to two.
In the second period, Neumann cut Buffalo State's lead back down to one goal at 15:45. Once again, the Bengals responded and pushed their lead back out to two with a goal from Ryan Demyen (Hubbard, OH/Hubbard).
Pryce closed out scoring with an empty net goal at 1:02 in the third period to give the Bengals the 5-2 victory.
Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/John F. Kennedy) earned the win in net for the Bengals with 37 saves.
Buffalo State returns to action tomorrow at 7 p.m. for the championship game of the tournament against host Norwich.
