Women’s Soccer Shuts Down Potsdam, Records 10th Straight Win

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Buffalo State women's soccer shutout visiting Potsdam, allowing the Bears just one shot in 90 minutes during a 2-0 conference victory on a rainy Friday afternoon at Coyer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State came out strong and ready to win from the first whistle.
  • The Bengals outshot the Bears 20-1, including 14-1 in the first half.
  • Despite the pressure offensively, the Potsdam goalkeeper was able to make some saves and keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.
  • In the second half, Buffalo State continued to put the pressure on offensively.
  • After being tackled in the box, sophomore Tianna Hatch (Endicott, NY/Elmira Free Academy) put away a penalty kick into the back right corner of the net to put the Bengals up 1-0 in the 50th minute.
  • Sophomore Victoria Colotti (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) put Buffalo State up 2-0 in the 71st minute after her header off a perfectly placed corner kick from Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) sailed right past the Potsdam goalkeeper.
  • The Bengals finished out the final 19 minutes of the game in control of possession.
  • Buffalo State goalkeeper Jessica McCarey (Middletown, NY/Middletown) earned the win, recording her third shutout of the season.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Erin McClusky had Potsdam's only shot of the game, which sailed wide of the net in the first half.
  • Goalkeeper Bri Thibeau finished with eight saves.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • The Bengals 11 wins ties for the second most wins in a season in program history. Reaching the 11 win mark has been done three times before this season with the most recent in 2013. The current record for wins in a season is 13 and was set in 1984.
