BUFFALO, N.Y. - Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC playoffs for the second time in three seasons under coach
Mark Howlett. The Bengals will travel to Cortland this Saturday for a 12:30 p.m. quarterfinal contest.
The No. 6 Bengals finished the regular season 10-6-2 overall and 4-4-1 in the conference, with a win over New Platz clinching a playoff spot for Buffalo State last weekend. Freshman
Rob Williamson (Fishkill/John Jay) scored his first career goal which proved to be the game-winner for the Bengals.
Buffalo State takes on the No. 3 seeded Red Dragons who earned a 2-0 victory at Coyer Field earlier in the season and finished 11-4-2 overall.
So far this season, the Bengals have netted 27 goals and average 1.5 goals per game. Junior
Luke Pavone (Churchville/Churchville-Chili) leads the team with 25 points off 11 goals and three assists. He is ranked third in the SUNYAC for points. Rookie
Bass Sarr (New York/JREC) is second on the team in scoring with 14 points off seven goals. Sarr ranks second in the conference in shots. Sophomore
Sammy Wasson (Clarence/Clarence) has tallied a team-high five assists. Twelve different players have scored points for the Bengals this season. Goalkeeper
William Banahene (Rochester/Brighton) has played in 14 games, making 69 saves and tallying five shutouts. The junior is second for saves per game (4.93) in the conference.
Buffalo State is second in the conference for best goals against average. The Bengals have only allowed nine goals so far this season.
The winner of Saturday's quarterfinal game will advance to the semifinals at No. 2 Brockport on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
