The Matchup…Buffalo State earned a 30-7 bounce-back victory over St. John Fisher last week to level its overall record at 2-2 and improve to 1-2 in Empire 8 play. Cortland climbed to No. 18 in the D3Football.com national rankings after earning its second-straight overtime victory, defeating Hartwick, 48-45, to improve to 5-0 overall and 3-0 in its first season in the Empire 8. The Bengals improved to 12-19 all-time against Cortland with a third-straight win against the Red Dragons last season for in perhaps the wildest finish in the 31 meetings between the two teams. In an attempt to run out the clock at the end of regulation, a Cortland player slid down, inadvertently leaving one second on the clock. The Bengals took advantage as
Marc Montana booted a then school-record 49-yard field goal to force overtime and Buffalo State went on to win 51-48 in the extra period. This is the first time Buffalo State and Cortland will square off both as members of the Empire 8.
