LOS ANGELES—Occidental (6-4) scored the game's first four goals and never looked back as it handed Buffalo State (1-4) a 20-11 decision on the Bengals first of two games in California during their spring break.
Freshman
Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) led Buffalo State with four goals.
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott) scored three times, while
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) chipped in two goals and two assists, and
Rebecca Galanti (Hamburg/Frontier) also scored.
Occidental took a 4-0 lead in the opening 10 minutes of the game and led 10-2 at the intermission. Buffalo State scored the first three goals of the second half to close the deficit to 10-5, but the Tigers answered with a 7-1 run to put the game out of reach.
Occidental maintained a 21-12 advantage in draw controls, and outshot Buffalo State, 39-27, including 23-9 in the first half.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) played the entire game in goal for Buffalo State, finishing with nine saves.
Buffalo State will remain on the West Coast to take on Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday at 7 p.m. PST.
