BUFFALO, NY—Freshman
Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) tallied a career-best 10 points to lead Buffalo State (3-5) to its second-consecutive victory today, defeating visiting Allegheny (3-5), 18-13, in a non-conference game at Coyer Field.
Herne paced the Bengals with three goals and seven assists.
Kendra Thomas (Painted Post/Corning West) added four goals and an assists, and
Alexis Wilensky (Syracuse/Corcoran) chipped in two goals and two assists.
Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake),
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union-Endicott) and
Rebecca Galanti (Hamburg/Frontier) all scored two goals each, and
Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier),
Andrea Folgherait (Oswego/Oswego) and
Carol Ann Currado (Chittenango/Chittenango) also scored for Buffalo State.
The Bengals jumped out to and early 2-0 lead, but the Gators respond with three consecutive goals to take the lead in the early going. Buffalo State led 7-6 at halftime, but Allegheny pulled even at 8-8 with 27 minutes remaining. The Bengals answered with a 4-0 run to take a lead they would never relinquish, eventually pushing the margin to as many as seven before a late push by the Gators.
The Bengals outshot Allegheny, 33-21, including 27-17 on goal. Buffalo State also had a commanding 23-10 advantage in draw controls and a slight 24-20 edge in ground balls.
Freshman
Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) was credited with the win in goal for Buffalo State in her first collegiate appearance, making four saves while allowing five goals in 25 minutes of play.
Buffalo State will next visit New Paltz for a SUNYAC contest on Saturday at 1 p.m.
