Late Goals Sink Men’s Hockey at Johnson & Wales, 3-1

PAWTUCKET, R.I.—Johnson & Wales netted the game-winning goal on the power play with just 11 seconds remaining and added an empty-netter seven seconds later to secure a 3-1 victory over visiting Buffalo State tonight in a non-conference game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Johnson & Wales opened the scoring with just four seconds remaining in the first period and held the one-goal advantage until midway through the final frame.
  • Ryan Salkeld (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland) finally got the Bengals on the scoreboard at 11:33 of the third period with his sixth of the season with an assists from Zachary Stein (Enfield, CT/National Sports Academy).
  • The Wildcats capitalized on a late Bengals' penalty, however, and netted a power-play goal with just 11 seconds remaining.
  • Johnson & Wales sealed the victory with an empty-net goal off the ensuing faceoff.
  • Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) finished with 28 stops between the pipes for Buffalo State, as the Wildcats finished with a 31-25 edge in shots.
  • The Bengals were 0 for 2 on the power play, while Johnson & Wales capitalized on its only opportunity.
