Women’s Hockey Blanks Oswego, 2-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State netted two first-period goals and Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) did the rest, stopping all 27 shots to backstop the host Bengals to a 2-0 victory over Oswego to complete the weekend sweep in an ECAC West game this afternoon.

  • Viivi Vaattovaara (Veikkola, Finland) opened the scoring for Buffalo State with her first goal of the season midway through the first period with assists from Brooke Krantz (Penticton, BC/Penticton) and Erin Gehen (West Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West).
  • Nikki Kirchberger (Buffalo, NY/W. Seneca West) gave the Bengals a two-goal lead with 48 seconds left in the first period with her ninth goal of the season with Megan Reukauf (Depew, NY/Lancaster) and Vaattovaara.
  • Buffalo State killed off all five Oswego power-play opportunities.
  • Oswego held a narrow 27-24 advantage in shots on goal.
