Women’s Basketball dominates Cazenovia to open Abgott Invitational

BUFFALO, N.Y.-- Princella McCullough (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) scored 20 points as hauled in 19 rebounds and Buffalo State led wire-to-wire in an 85-51 rout over Cazenovia today in the opening round of the Betty Abgott Invitational at the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • McCullough was 9 of 14 from the field and added three blocks.
  • Aaliyah Graham (Huntington/Elwood-John Glenn) added 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting from the floor.
  • Lay Knight (Brooklyn/Brooklyn Prep) had seven points to go with 10 rebounds, and Caleh McLean (New Rochelle/New Rochelle) added nine points and four assists.
  • The Bengals jumped out to a 26-10 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back.
  • Buffalo State dominated in the paint, outscoring the Wildcats 44-20 inside, while holding a 60-29 rebounding advantage.
  • The Bengals also outscored Cazenovia 27-6 from 3-point range. 

FOR THE FOES
  • Skylar Girard led Cazenovia with 17 points. 
  • Sydney Smith scored 11, while Kelli Shapardson and Taylor Spranger had 10 points and seven rebounds apiece.
 
THE EARLY GAME
  • Rachel Benedict had 25 points and 13 rebounds to lead Nazareth past Thiel in the first game.
  • Thiel let 37-34 at halftime, but the Golden Flyers outscored the Tomcats 33-16 over the final 20 minutes.
  • Sam Sorge added 20 points and nine rebounds, and Samantha Peebles chipped in 12 points and 11 boards for Nazareth.
  • Jess Vormelker led Thiel with 18 points, and Erin DiFalco and Taylor Duchon scored 11 and 10 respectively.
