Men’s Hockey Crushes Brockport, 7-3

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—Taylor Pryce (Newmarket, ON/Cardinal Carter) had a five-point night as Buffalo State roared back from a 2-0 deficit to post a 7-3 victory over host Brockport tonight in a SUNYAC game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Pryce led the Bengals with two goals and three assists, and Ryan Salkeld (Virginia Beach, VA/Churchland) also scored twice.
  • Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) had a goal and an assist, and Jake Rosen (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) tallied a goal and a helper.
  • Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) also scored for Buffalo State, and Jonathan Hall (Greenfield, IN/Connections Academy) had a pair of assists.
  • Brockport jumped out to a 2-0 lead 11 minutes into the game, but Buffalo State took control from there.
  • Salkeld put the Bengals on the board and Pryce evened the score with just 44 seconds left in the opening period.
  • The Bengals blew the game open early in the second period, scoring three goals in a span of just 1:10. 
  • Rosen scored at the 1:33 mark, then Salkeld scored his second of the game and 13th of the season 59 seconds later, and Pryce netted his second of the game and 13th of the year just 11 seconds after that.
  • Nieminen's fifth of the year pushed the score to 6-2 before the second intermission.
  • Brockport scored midway through the third, but Wood's eighth of the year completed the scoring.
  • The Bengals dominated shots by a 46-27 margin.  Buffalo State was 1 for 1 on the power play, and Brockport finished 1 for 2.
  • Mike DeLaVergne (Pawling, NY/Pawling) finished with 24 saves for the Bengals.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Jesse Facchini, Jake Taylor and Aidan Verbeke scored for Brockport. 
  • Jared Lockhurst allowed two goals on 24 shots in the first period, before giving way for Cole Burack had gave up five goals on 22 shots over the final 40 minutes.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • Buffalo State matched a school record for wins in a season with 13 set in 2011-12 and 2012-13.
  • Rosen has scored in four straight games and in five of the last six.
