Women’s Lacrosse falls short at No. 12 Brockport, 15-7

BROCKPORT, N.Y.— Buffalo State mounted a second-half rally, but it was not enough as host No.12 Brockport pulled away late for a 15-7 victory today in a SUNYAC contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) paced Buffalo State's offense with three goals, and Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown) scored twice.
  • Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) chipped in a goal and two assists, and Sarah Lorusso (Lakeview/Frontier) also scored for the Bengals.
  • Brockport jumped out to a 6-1 lead by the intermission and scored the first three goals of the second half to push the advantage to 9-1.
  • The Bengals rallied with a 6-1 run of their own to cut the deficit to just 10-7, but the Golden Eagles responded with four goals in a span of 2:36 to put the game out of reach.
  • Brockport tacked on one more goal in the final minute.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) started in goal for Buffalo State, allowing five goals on seven shots in the first 11-plus minutes of play.  Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) played well in relief, making 11 saves while surrendering 10 goals.
  • Brockport finished with a 41-20 advantage in shots and a 17-7 margin in draw controls.  The Golden Eagles also won the ground ball battle, 24-11.
  • Buffalo State was whistled for 37 fouls, compared to just 18 by Brockport.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kelly Wall and Jessica Boddery scored four goals each for Brockport.  Andrea Zlinsky added three goals, and Keeley Rice scored twice.
  • Sara Shaddock, the sister of Buffalo State all-time leading scorer Karen Shaddock, finished with six saves in goal for the win for the Golden Eagles.
 
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will look to get back on track with another SUNYAC game on Saturday at Oneonta at noon.
