BUFFALO, N.Y.—
Melissa Smith (N. Tonawanda/Niagara Wheatfield) scored seven minutes into the game, giving Buffalo State the only marker it would need in a 3-0 win over visiting D'Youville this afternoon at Coyer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Smith got the Bengals on the board first, fighting for a loose ball, gaining control of it and chipping it into the back of the net for a 1-0 Buffalo State lead.
- The Bengals kept the pressure on during the entire first half, outshooting D'Youville 13-0, but the score remained 1-0 heading into the second.
- Tianna Hatch (Endicott/Elmira Free Acad.) broke through in the 56th minute, finding the back of the net off a beautiful tic-tac-toe play from Smith to push the lead to 2-0.
- Just a minute and 16 seconds later, Breanna Knight (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South) found herself open in the middle of the field and ripped a strike from 20 yards out into the top of the net to put the Bengals up for good, 3-0.
- Buffalo State outshot D'Youville 26-0, with 12 of the Bengals' shots hitting the net.
- Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) recorded her second shutout of the season in the victory.
FOR THE FOES
- Marina Campbell came into the game in the 21st minute in goal for injured starter Megan Dulniak. Despite not being a true back up keeper, Campbell made seven saves and kept D'Youville in the game until Buffalo State pulled away in the second half.
