Women’s Hockey rips William Smith, 5-2

BUFFALO, N.Y.- Natasha Steinle (Morrison, CO/CIHA) scored twice as Buffalo State skated to a 5-2 victory over visiting William Smith tonight in an ECAC West contest at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Steinle now has five goals in her last five games after going scoreless in her first eight games as a Bengal.
  • Christine Harris (Mountain Top, PA/Wyoming Seminary) and Rachel Lenard (Orchard Park, NY/Nardin) had a goal and an assist each, and freshman Lila Toczek (Pendleton, NY/Starpoint) scored her first collegiate goal.
  • Harris opened the scoring just 2:20 into the contest.  Steinle extended the lead just four minutes later, and Lenard tallied a power-play marker later in the frame push the lead to 3-0 before the first intermission.
  • Toczek's marker in the middle frame extended the lead before William Smith finally got on the board in the waning minutes of the period.
  • Steinle's second of the game midway through the third period put the game out of reach. 
  • William Smith added a late goal to complete the scoring.
  • Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) finished with 20 saves for the win as the Bengals outshot the Herrons, 28-22. 

FOR THE FOES
  • Krista Federow and Kate Klimaszewski had a goal and an assist each for William Smith.
  • Devon Strachan had 23 saves in the loss.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • Junior Erin Gehen (W. Seneca, NY/W. Seneca West) moved into sole possession of second on Buffalo State's all-time scoring list, picking up an assist for her 63rd career point.
