  • Bart Mazzara (Lockport/Starpoint) led the defense with 20 tackles in his final game in a Bengal uniform.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • USMMA caught Buffalo State off guard to open the game with a successful on-side kick and needed just seven plays to punch in a touchdown on a 7-yard scoring run by quarterback Brice Moore.
  • Buffalo State answered to even the score at 7-7 with an 8-yard scoring run by Neal before the end of the first quarter.
  • USMMA's Noah Newburgh shot through to block a Buffalo State punt early in the second quarter, and USMMA needed just three plays to capitalize on the short field reclaiming the lead 13-7 on a 4-yard run by Wiley Martin.
  • USMMA marched 80 yards on 14 plays on its next possession, capped by Moore's second touchdown of the game from 4 yards, and it took a 20-7 advantage into halftime.
  • A third special teams blunder by Buffalo State led to another score by the Mariners on their first possession of the second half.  USMMA missed a 31-yard field goal try, but the Bengals were offside, and the Mariners took advantage of the prolonged drive with Moore rushing 2 yards for his third touchdown of the game to go ahead 26-7.
  • Buffalo State answered with a 12-play, 72-yard drive of its own and found the end zone on a 3-yard scoring run by Antoine Holloman (Brooklyn/Abraham Lincoln).
  • Joseph Bellomo popped a 61-yard run on the next play from scrimmage, and Martin scored for the second time of the day five played later from 4 yards out to push the lead to 32-14 with 28 seconds left in the third quarter.
  • Buffalo State worked quickly to start the fourth quarter and closed the deficit to 32-20 with a 4-yard keeper by Hoppy, but failed on the two-point conversion try.
  • The Mariners grinded out a nine-minute drive that resulted in a 32-yard field goal by Jake McDonough with just 3:59 remaining in regulation.
  • Buffalo State's final drive ended with an interception and USMMA ran out the clock.
