Women’s Basketball falls to Cortland, 62-53

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Buffalo State was unable to cash in on a nine-point lead in the second half, dropping a 62-53 decision against visiting Cortland today in a SUNYAC contest at the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) and Jenna Faulkner (Lockport/Starpoint) led Buffalo State with 14 points apiece.  LeBaron also grabbed nine rebounds.
  • Grace Licata (Williamsville/Williamsville South) chipped in 10 points, and Lay Knight (Brooklyn/Brooklyn Prep) pulled down a career-best 15 rebounds and had five steals.
  • Buffalo State led 27-21 at halftime and pushed its advantage to nine on two occasions early in the third quarter.
  • The Red Dragons chipped away and took their first lead since early in the first quarter at 42-41 to close out the third period.
  • The Bengals led briefly in the fourth quarter, but Cortland used a 17-4 run down the stretch to pull away.
  • Buffalo State shot just 27 percent for the game, including 7 of 37 (19 percent) from 3-point range.
  • Cortland shot 36 percent and outscored the Bengals 19-6 at the free throw line.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Kristy Vitucci led Cortland with 18 points.  Shana Crespo added 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Justine Crespo had 11 points to go with 12 boards.
