No. 1 Plattsburgh downs Women’s Hockey, 3-0

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Three-time defending national champion and No. 1-ranked Plattsburgh skated to a 3-0 victory over host Buffalo State tonight in an ECAC West contest at the Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Plattsburgh controlled the zone play in the opening period, but could not break through as the teams went into the first intermission knotted in a scoreless draw.
  • Despite some early pressure by the Bengals in the second period, the Cardinals finally broke through with a power-play marker seven minutes into the second period. 
  • Plattsburgh added another goal late in the middle frame to take a two-goal edge into the third period.
  • The Cardinals netted an insurance marker, and Buffalo State could not break the shutout despite holding a 10-7 edge in shots over the final 20 minutes.
  • Plattsburgh finished with a 40-25 advantage in shots on goal for the game.
  • Justine Silva (Baldwin Park, CA/Arroyo) made 37 saves in the loss.
  • The Bengals were 0 for 6 on the power play, and the Cardinals were 1 for 4.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Melissa Ames opened the scoring for Plattsburgh, and Melissa Sheeran netted her 25th of the season.
