Women’s Basketball season ends with loss to Fredonia, 66-43

BUFFALO, N.Y.—Senior Shyasha Spencer (Geneva/Geneva) led Buffalo State with 10 points in her final game as a Bengal, but it was not enough as visiting Fredonia claimed a 66-43 victory in today's season finale.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kaelee Lynch (Atwater, CA/Buhach Colony) chipped in nine points, and Lay Knight (Brooklyn/Brooklyn Prep) added eight points and six rebounds for Buffalo State.
  • Buffalo State scored first, but never led again as Fredonia opened up a 19-6 lead by the end of the first quarter and never looked back. 
  • The Blue Devils were ahead 35-20 at the break and led by as many as 29 in the second half before cruising to the win.
  • Buffalo State committed 22 turnovers, compared to 14 by Fredonia. 
  • Fredonia was 8 of 19 from 3-point range, outscoring the Bengals 24-12 from long range.  The Blue Devils also held a 10-1 scoring advantage at the free-throw line, as the Bengals finished just 1 for 6.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Alexis Cheatham paced Fredonia with 21 points, including five 3-pointers.
  • Jacque Law joined her in double-figures with 10 points, and Alisha Szumigala added six points and nine boards.
  • Fredonia earned one point in the season-long all-sports Battle by the Lake rivalry competition.

Buffalo State finishes its season in ninth in the SUNYAC with a league mark of 4-14.  Fredonia will advance to the first round of the SUNYAC playoffs on Tuesday as the No. 5 seed and will visit No. 4 Cortland.
