Montclair State edges Women’s Lacrosse, 10-8

MONTCLAIR, N.J.—Montclair State used a 5-0 run in the second half to rally for a 10-8 victory over visiting Buffalo State in a non-conference game today at Sprague Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) kept the Bengals in the game, making 13 saves between the pipes.
  • Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) was the only Buffalo State player with multiple goals, scoring twice.
  • Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) added a goal and three assists, and Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) had a goal and two helpers.
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake), Cassie Saint-Vil (Middletown/Middletown), Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) and Christina Standinger (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) also scored for the Bengals.
  • The Red Hawks jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than eight minutes into the game, Buffalo State stormed back to score the next six goals and eventually take a 6-4 lead into the intermission.
  • Montclair and Buffalo State traded goals early in the second half, before the Red Hawks mounted a 5-0 run and held the Bengals scoreless for more than 17 minutes. 
  • The Bengals stopped the run with a marker with just under five minutes remaining to cut the deficit to two, but neither team would score again the rest of the way.
  • Montclair State outshot the Bengals 36-19 overall and 23-13 on goal.  The Red Hawks also had a 32-25 advantage in ground balls.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Francesca Verrone led Montclair with three goals, and Aviana Paraggio and Chelsea Orban scored twice each.
  • Amanda Maguire had five saves in the win.
