No. 17 William Smith shuts down Women’s Lacrosse, 9-2

GENEVA, N.Y.—Nationally-ranked No. 17 William Smith limited visiting Buffalo State to just five shot attempts in a 9-2 victory today in a non-conference game at Boswell Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and Christina Standinger (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) scored a goal apiece for Buffalo State.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) played the first half in goal for the Bengals, making seven saves while allowing four goals.
  • Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) played the final 30 minutes and surrendered five goals and made eight saves.
  • After the Herons struck first, Krowel netter her 17th of the season with an assist from Morgan Hogue (Painted Post/Corning) to even the score at 1-1.
  • William Smith scored the final three goals of the first half, and added the first two of the second half to push the lead to 6-1.
  • Standinger scored for the Bengals midway through the second half with a helper from Kyra Thompson (Massena/Salmon River), but the Bengals would not pull any closer, as the Herons closed out the score with the game's final three goals.
  • William Smith dominated possession and outshot Buffalo State 41-5 for the game.
  • The Herons also had a 27-8 advantage in ground balls, and forced 31 Buffalo State turnovers, while committing 14.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Allie Flaherty led William Smith with three goals, and Ali Burns, Melissa Moore and Bizzer Gahagan scored twice each.
