Women’s Lacrosse season ends in SUNYAC Quarters at Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y.—Third-seeded Geneseo took an early 7-1 lead and never looked back en route to a 20-6 victory over visiting No. 6 Buffalo State today in a SUNYAC quarterfinal matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Christina Krowel (Amsterdam/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) led the Bengals with three goals, while Jackie Dufresne (Lake View/Frontier) added a goal and two assists.
  • Nina Schaefer (Lafayette/Lafayette) and Johna Kjerstad (Baldwinsville/CW Baker) added one goal apiece for the Bengals.     
  • The Knights scored a pair of goals 38 seconds apart early in the game to take a 2-0 lead. 
  • Dufresne cut the lead in half for Buffalo State, but Geneseo went on a 6-0 run from there.
  • Krowel scored three times, including her 43rd of the year to help close the gap to 9-4, but the Bengals would not come any closer.
  • The Knights netted the final two goals of the first half to lead 11-4 at the intermission, and continued that run with the first eight goals of the second half to pull away.
  • Geneseo controlled the ball for much of the game, outshooting the Bengals 35-12, with a 16-12 edge in draw controls. 
  • The Knights were perfect on transition, going 9 for 9 on clear attempts, while Buffalo State finished 5 for 10.
  • Elyse Stark (Lido Beach/Long Beach) made four saves while allowing 11 goals in the first half, and Megan Doyle (Palmyra/Palmyra-Macedon) made one stop with nine goals against in the second half.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Maddie Lee led Geneseo with four goals, and Erin Cregan, Tessa Doody, and Hannah Millich tallied three goals apiece.
  • Tess McFadden finished with five saves in the win.
 
NOTEWORTHY
  • Buffalo State was playing without the SUNYAC's leading scorer Alanna Herne (Tonawanda/Tonawanda) who was sidelined with an injury.
