Women’s Volleyball stumbles twice against Allegheny, Westminster

MEADVILLE, Pa.—Buffalo State continued its search for a winning form today, dropping a pair of matches, falling in straight-set to host Allegheny, before striking first against Westminster before suffering a four-set defeat.
 
MATCH 1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Allegheny def. Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-18, 25-20, 25-18)
LOCATION: Meadville, Pa.
RECORDS: Allegheny (9-7), Buffalo State (4-13)
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Allegheny used an 8-0 run in the middle of the first set to create separation and took the early advantage with a 25-18 win.  The Gators then won 25-20, and tallied five-straight points to close out the match with a 25-18 win in the third set.
  • Allegheny capitalized on a 13-3 advantage in service aces, and a 7-3 edge in blocks.
  • Lauren Hansen (Blue Point/Bayport Blue Point) paced Buffalo State with 10 kills and two aces to go with eight digs.
  • Brittney Valentine (Marietta/Marcellus) had a team-high 20 digs, and Alyssa Durski (Eden/Eden) finished with 24 assists.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Leah Franzluebbers had 10 kills and four aces to pace Allegheny. 
  • Justine Kelly had 28 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State was energized to open the day's second match, winning the opening set, 25-18.
  • Westminster battled back to win a pair of tight sets, 25-22 and 26-24, and then closed the match out with a 25-15 win in the fourth set.
  • Hansen continued to be the engine of the Bengals' offense with 16 kills on 61 attacks. 
  • Eimile O'Brien (Marietta/Marcellus) added seven kills and two blocks.
  • Valentine led the defensive efforts with 23 digs, and Durski added 16 digs and 24 assists.
 
UP NEXT
Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play with three matches at Geneseo next weekend, beginning against New Paltz on Friday at 7 p.m.
