FREDONIA, N.Y.—Houghton netted a pair of goals just over a minute apart early in the second half to defeat Buffalo State 2-0 today in the opening round of the Fredonia Blue Devils Classic.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State held a 16-10 advantage in shot attempts, but was unable to break through against the Highlanders.
- After a scoreless first half, the Bengals conceded their first goal of the season in the 58th minute.
- Houghton padded its lead just 1:04 later and held on for the two-goal victory.
- Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) finished with three saves in goal for the Bengals.
- Buffalo State also had a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
FOR THE FOES
- Ben Lawrence scored both goals for Houghton.
- Jordan Crouch made six saves to preserve the shutout.
