LeBaron lifts Women’s Basketball past Brockport, 56-54

BROCKPORT, N.Y.—Sophomore transfer Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) netted 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead visiting Buffalo State to a 56-54 victory against her former team Brockport tonight in a SUNYAC contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • LeBaron shot 8 of 18 from the field, including 5 of 8 from long range, and added four assists and two steals.
  • Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) chipped in 10 points.
  • Grace Licata (Williamsville/Williamsville South) added eight points, and Mariah Rosario (Flushing/RFK) had six points and eight rebounds.
  • Buffalo State scored the game's first five points, but Brockport answered with a 16-2 run and to take an early lead it would hold until the fourth quarter.
  • The Golden Eagles pushed the advantage to as many as 16 in the second quarter and led 35-26 at halftime.
  • The Bengals cut the deficit to one twice in the third quarter, but Brockport pushed the margin back to eight early in the fourth.
  • Buffalo State took its first lead since the early going with less than two minutes remaining, but Brockport led again by one in the final minute.
  • LeBaron cashed in on a 3-pointer with just 46 seconds remaining and the Bengals' defense would hold to preserve the important two-point victory.
  • The Bengals outscored Brockport 30-15 from 3-point range, as the Golden Eagles held a 21-2 scoring edge at the charity stripe.  Buffalo State attempted just two free throws while hitting 10 of 27 from beyond the arc.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Emily Nestler led Brockport with 15 points.
  • Lindsay Johnson finished with 10 points and 13 rebounds.
