Women’s Volleyball falls to Cortland in four

BUFFALO, N.Y.— Buffalo State used an 11-2 run to claim the first set, but could not continue the momentum as it dropped a four-set decision to visiting Cortland to open up SUNYAC play in the Sports Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cortland got off to a quick start by scoring eight of the first 10 points in the contest to take an early lead. Buffalo State responded with a 7-1 run that lead to the Bengals recapturing the lead, 19-18, off a kill from Alena McKelvey (Buffalo/City Honors).
  • Buffalo State tallied a kill from Brooke Latour (Lakewood/Southwestern) to cap off a late run to claim the first set 25-19.
  • Cortland again jumped out to a 14-4 lead in the second set and never looked back winning the frame 25-13.
  • The Bengals battled back in the third set, after a slow start, to cut the lead from 18-12 to 20-17. The Red Dragons rattled off five of the next six points to take the set 25-18.
  • Cortland completed the four-set win with a 25-20 win in the fourth set.
  • Latour led the Bengals offense with 10 kills and finished with eight digs.
  • Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) finished with 28 assists and 11 digs.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Nicole Van Pelt and Nadia Moore led the Red Dragons with 12 kills and 10 kills respectively.
  • Gabby Amelio chipped in 36 assists.
 
UP NEXT                 
Buffalo State will play two more conference matches against Brockport at 12 p.m. and Geneseo at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Sports Arena.
