Potsdam upends No. 13 Men’s Hockey, 3-2

POTSDAM, N.Y.— Potsdam tallied the game-winner with less than two minutes remaining and survived a wild flurry at the buzzer to hand visiting No. 13 Buffalo State a 3-2 defeat in a SUNYAC game today at Maxcy Ice Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams traded goals in the first period with Buffalo State striking first on Ben Butcher's  (Bellingham, WA/Langley) fourth of the season from Hugo Petit (Chelsea, QC/CIH Acad.).
  • The Bengals reclaimed the lead early in the second period when Zach Nieminen (Ajax, ON/Notre Dame CSS) tallied his ninth goal of the season with assists from Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore) and Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius).
  • Potsdam again had an answer later in the frame with a power-play goal to even the score at 2-2 entering the final period.
  • The Bears netted the game-winner with just 1:55 remaining on a slap shot from a sharp angle on the right wing.
  • The Bengals applied pressure in the closing seconds, but could not produce the equalizer.
  • Potsdam was credited with a 32-18 advantage in shots on goal for the game, as Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) finished with 29 saves for the Bengals.
  • A single minor penalty on Potsdam was the lone infraction of the game.
