Men’s Hockey to host Potsdam in Wednesday SUNYAC Quarterfinal

Buffalo State will make its eighth-consecutive SUNYAC postseason appearance when it hosts No. 6 Potsdam as the No. 3 seed on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Bengals finished the regular season 16-6-3 overall, having posting the second-highest single-season win total in school history (18 in 2016-17), and earned the third seed in the SUNYAC with a 9-4-3 league record.

Buffalo State boasts the No. 2 scoring offense (3.76 gpg) and the No. 3 defense (2.16 GAA) in the SUNYAC this season.  Sophomore Anthony Passero (Fort Erie, ON/Lakeshore) leads the Bengals with 28 points (seven goals and 21 assists) in 24 games this season.  Reid Bibb (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) is second on the team and leads all SUNYAC freshmen with 25 points, including nine goals and 16 assists in 25 games.  Sophomore Michael Anthony Guerrera (Montreal, QC/OHA) leads the league in defensemen scoring with nine goals and 24 points, and junior Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) leads the team with 13 goals.  Senior Ian Sylves (Sloan, NY/JFK) backstopped the Bengals to 14 of the team's 16 wins and ranks third in the league with a 1.86 goals against average and is second in the conference with a .933 save percentage.

Buffalo State split the regular-season series with the Bears, skating to a 5-0 victory on home ice on Dec. 2, before dropping its regular season finale at Potsdam, 3-2.  The Bengals have been idle since that game on Feb. 10.  Meanwhile, Potsdam concluded its regular season this past Saturday with a 4-1 loss to Cortland, one day after knocking off No. 3 Oswego, 1-0.

The Bears finished the regular season 10-10-5 overall and 6-8-2 in league play.  They are led by senior Dylan Vander Esch who has 12 goals and 25 points in 25 games this season and has 60 goals and 98 points in 99 career games.

The Bengals are 2-0 all-time against Potsdam in the postseason, winning 4-3 at home in the 2012 quarterfinals, and skating to a 6-2 win at Potsdam in the 2015 quarterfinals.  Buffalo State has advanced to six-straight SUNYAC semifinals, but has never played in the league's championship game.

If Buffalo State wins, it will play at No. 2 Geneseo on Saturday at 7 p.m.  If Potsdam wins, it will travel to top-seeded Oswego.

Tickets for Wednesday's game go on sale one hour prior to faceoff and are $5 for adults and $3 for students.  Buffalo State and any SUNYAC school students are free with valid ID.
