Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Fast start propels John Carroll past Women’s Soccer, 3-1

BUFFALO, N.Y.—John Carroll claimed a 2-0 lead just 67 seconds into the contest and held on for a 3-1 victory over host Buffalo State in a non-conference game today at Coyer Field.

THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  John Carroll – 3, Buffalo State – 1
LOCATION: Coyer Field – Buffalo, N.Y.
RECORDS: John Carroll (3-3-1), Buffalo State (1-4-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blue Streaks opened the scoring just 46 seconds into the contest and before the dust settled, they netted a second goal to take a 2-0 lead just 1:07 into the game.
  • Buffalo State settled in from there, finishing the first half with a 6-5 edge in shots, but still trailed by two at halftime.
  • Olivia Colby (Buffalo/Kenmore East) put Buffalo State on the scoreboard in the 61st minute with her first collegiate goal on a back-post header off a corner kick from Allie Reeds (E. Amherst/Williamsville South).  Colby's try was deemed to just cross the goal line inside the far post before it was knocked away by a John Carroll defender.
  • Reeds nearly evened the score just moments later when she sprinted down the right flank and ripped a shot off the far goalpost.
  • The Blue Streaks held the Bengals off from there and added an insurance marker in the 84th minute on a long breakaway off a well-placed through ball.
  • Buffalo State finished with an 11-9 edge in shots.  Taylor Carillo (Pine Bush/Pine Bush) finished with one save in goal for the Bengals.

FOR THE FOES
  • Bailey Fischer scored her fifth and sixth goals of the season for the Blue Streaks, and Sydney Scello also scored.
  • Danielle DelGiudice made five saves in the win.
