GENESEO, N.Y.—Buffalo State answered an early goal by visiting Geneseo and neither team could breakthrough again in a 1-1 tie in a SUNYAC contest today at Coyer Field.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: Buffalo State – 1, Geneseo - 1
LOCATION: Coyer Field - Buffalo, N.Y.
RECORDS: Buffalo State (6-2-1/1-1-1), Geneseo (3-3-3/1-1-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Geneseo opened the scoring in the 12th minute, using the strong wind advantage to bend a corner kick inside the far post.
- The Bengals evened the contest in the 39th when August Finn (High Falls, NY/Rondout Valley) used a dribble entry and nifty flick on a through ball to spring Ramazani Juma (Utica/Proctor) who made no mistake for his second goal of the season.
- Both teams kept the opposition in check for most of the remainder of the contest with the bulk of action taking place at midfield.
- The Bengals made one late push, but Nemanja Simic's (Grand Island/Grand Island) bid for the game-winner in the 109th minute sailed inches wide of the left goalpost.
- Shots for the game finished even at 14-14.
- Andreas Queen (Stone Ridge/Rondout Valley) finished with seven saves for Buffalo State.
FOR THE FOES
- Marco LaRocca scored for Geneseo, and Dillon Medd made five saves.
NOTEWORTHY
- In addition to being a rematch of last season's SUNYAC Quarterfinals, it was a "homecoming" for Geneseo head coach Mark Howlett who held the same role at Buffalo State for five seasons from 2013-2017.
