Women’s Volleyball falls to Skidmore, drops marathon against Ramapo

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.—Buffalo State was unable to secure a victory on the final day the Union Invitational today with a straight-set loss to Skidmore before coming up just short in a roller-coaster five-set match against Ramapo.
 
MATCH #1 BASICS
FINAL SCORE:  Skidmore def. Buffalo State, 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-19)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Skidmore used an efficient attack and 18 service aces to power past Buffalo State in the morning match.
  • The Thoroughbreds posted a .439 attack percentage, compared to .151 by the Bengals.
  • Danneile Arcuri (Holland Patent/Holland Patent) matched her season-best with seven kills to lead Buffalo State's attack.
  • Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) had 13 assists.
  • Buffalo State finished with just two aces and 17 digs as a team.  Skidmore had 31 digs.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Ramapo jumped out to a 11-3 lead in the first set, before the Bengals answered with an 11-2 run of their own to lead briefly, but the Roadrunners clawed their way to a 25-22 opening set win.
  • The Bengals raced out to a 19-5 lead in the second set and went on to even the match and then continued to cruise, claiming the third set, 25-14.
  • Ramapo rebounded to force a deciding set with a 25-21 in in the fourth set, and held on for a 15-13 win in the final set to escape with a wild, hard-fought victory.
  • Both teams struggled to find consistency on the attack with Buffalo State holding a 50-36 advantage in kills, but Ramapo posting a 13-5 edge in blocks.  The Roadrunners had a .037 attack percentage, compared to .092 by the Bengals.
  • Brooke Latour (Lakewood/Southwestern) tallied 11 kills and four aces for Buffalo State, and Bryanna Fisher (Brooklyn/Midwood) added 11 kills to go with five blocks.
  • Eimile O'Brien (Marietta/Marcellus) also finished with double-digit kills with 10.
  • Brooke Federko (Jamestown/Jamestown) added 23 assists and 13 digs.
  • Brittney Valentine (Marietta/Marcellus) and Victoria Rigler (Amherst/Sweet Home) also had 13 digs each, and Maria Gelyon (West Seneca/Immuculata) had 15 assists and four aces.
