Buffalo State and Fredonia will reboot the 2018-19 "Battle by the Lake" competition this weekend with a home-and-home series beginning on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Fredonia, followed by the Bengals hosting the Blue Devils on Saturday at 7 p.m.
The Bengals enter the weekend 7-8-1 overall and 4-4-1 in SUNYAC play looking to end a three-game losing streak. Senior
Mac Wood (Simcoe, ON/SCS) leads Buffalo State with eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 16 games.
Zach Remers (Clarence, NY/Canisius) has tallied 13 points (five goals and eight assists), while
Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallinn, Estonia) has chipped in 10 points (seven goals and three assists) in only 12 games.
Prior to this weekend, No. 14/15 Fredonia was 11-3-3 overall and 5-2-1 in conference action following a tie to Brockport on Tuesday. Junior Jacob Haynes paces the Blue Devils with seven goals and seven assists to the tune of 14 points in 16 games. Senior Luke Rivera has a team-high nine goals while sophomore Victor Tracy has chipped in a team-high eight assists to go along with five goals.
The next "Battle by the Lake" showdowns will be on Saturday, Feb. 16 as Buffalo State hosts Fredonia in a men's and women's basketball double-header starting at 2 p.m.
Established for the 2014-15 season, the "Battle by the Lake" is a season-long "all sports" competition between Buffalo State and Fredonia. Each sport in which the two schools compete is worth two points annually. Each game this weekend carries one point for the winning school.
