Fredonia currently holds a 2-0 lead after a 3-1 victory in women's volleyball on Sept. 17. Buffalo State claimed the Lake Erie Cup for the first time in five years with a 19-14 win during the 2018-19 season.
Buffalo State and Fredonia will both compete in the SUNYAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 2, which will also serve as the next installment in the season-long "Battle by the Lake" competition. Both championship meets are slated to start at 11 a.m.
Established for the 2014-15 season, the "Battle by the Lake" is a season-long "all sports" competition between Buffalo State and Fredonia. Each sport in which the two schools compete is worth two points annually. The school with the most points at the end of the season will earn the Lake Erie Cup and keep the cup on its campus for the following year (non-conference and postseason matchups will not count toward the Lake Erie Cup competition).
