BUFFALO, N.Y.—
Kay Grant (Jamaica/Thomas Jefferson) and
Sheldon Adams (Rochester/Bishop Kearney) combined for 43 points and 16 rebounds, but it was not enough as St. John Fisher closed the contest on an 11-6 run to claim an 89-83 victory over host Buffalo State in non-conference action this evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Grant led the Bengals in scoring with 23 points on 9 of 14 shooting to go along with a game-high 14 rebounds.
- Adams chipped in 20 points on 4 of 7 from distance, while Zion Guzman Milton (Valley Stream/Valley Stream South) added 13 points and 10 rebounds.
- Aaron Davis (Beacon/Beacon) and Jordan Christopher (Bronx/Mott Haven Campus) also scored in double-figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.
- The lead changed hands multiple times in the opening minutes, until a 10-1 run gave the Bengals a 28-20 lead with 7:34 left in the first half.
- The Cardinals regrouped over the next couple of minutes and capitalized on a pair of late free throws to take a 38-36 lead at halftime.
- Buffalo State opened the second stanza with a 7-4 run to take a 43-42 with 16 minutes left but failed to maintain the lead as St. John Fisher recaptured the lead just four minutes later.
- The Bengals trimmed the lead to a single point on multiple occasions down the stretch, until a final 11-4 run by the Cardinals proved to be the difference.
- St. John Fisher held a 22-2 advantage in points-off-turnovers, forcing 17 turnovers, and outscored Buffalo State 29-4 off the bench.
- The Bengals shot 44 percent from the floor, while the Cardinals shot 47 percent.
FOR THE FOES
- Four players scored in double-figures for St. John Fisher, lead by Brendan Trapper with 21 points.
- Dennis Hare added 19 points and a team-high seven rebounds.
