Dominant second quarter propels New Paltz past Women’s Basketball, 73-45

NEW PALTZ, N.Y.—New Paltz outscored visiting Buffalo State 27-3 in the second quarter and cruised to a 73-45 victory this evening in a SUNYAC contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Katie Villarini (Hamburg/Hamburg) was Buffalo State's leading scorer with nine points to go with six rebounds.
  • Jenna Faulkner (Lockport/Starpoint) added seven points, and Grace Licata (Williamsville/Williamsville South) scored six.
  • The SUNYAC's leading scorer Liv LeBaron (Corning/Corning East) was held to just five points.
  • Buffalo State led 15-13 after a back-and-forth first quarter before the Hawks took control in the second.
  • The Hawks opened the period on with an 18-0 run before Kaelee Lynch (Atwater, CA/Buhach Colony) hit a 3-pointer for the Bengals only points.  New Paltz responded with the next nine points to take a 40-18 lead into the intermission.
  • The Bengals never cut the deficit to less than 19 in the second half.
  • Buffalo State shot just 29 percent for the game, compared to 42 percent shooting by New Paltz.
  • The Hawks outscored the Bengals 38-16 in the paint.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Rachel Simon led New Paltz with 18 points, while Philesha Teape had 13 points and nine rebounds.
