Scouting Buffalo State…The Bengals enter the weekend at 9-7-1 overall (5-3-0 SUNYAC) winning three of their previous four contests. Freshman Nikita Kozyrev (Tallin, Estonia) leads the Bengals and is third in the NCAA Division III in points by a freshman with 23 (seven goals and 16 assists) in 17 games this season. Senior Zach Remers (Clarence/Clarence) and junior Vadim Vasjonkin (Tallin, Estonia) are tied for seventh in the SUNYAC and lead the Bengals with nine goals each.
 
In net for the Bengals…All three of Buffalo State's goalies have seen action this season, including freshman Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Jensen) with a .942 save percentage, junior Connor Minch (Manchester, NH/Manchester Central) with a .899 save percentage and sophomore Trevor Micucci (Hamburg/Connections Acad.) with a .893 save percentage.

Scouting Fredonia…The Blue Devils return to SUNYAC play with a 4-8-5 overall record (1-6-1 SUNYAC) having not played a conference game since a 5-4 loss on Dec. 7 to No. 12 Oswego. Senior Jacob Haynes paces Fredonia with 19 points (seven goals and 12 assists) in 16 games this season. Junior Victor Tracy leads the Blue Devils with 13 assists, while senior defensemen Charlie Manley leads the team in goals with eight in 15 games played.
 
In net for the Blue Devils…Senior Anton Rosén and Ryan Pascarella are the two most likely to be featured in net for Fredonia entering with .910 and .933 save percentage respectively.

The series…Buffalo State is 16-40-9 all-time against the Blue Devils but has won four of the previous six meetings. The last meeting came on Feb. 20, 2019, when fifth-seeded Fredonia used an overtime game-winner to clinch a 3-2 win over No. 4 Buffalo State is the SUNYAC Quarterfinals.
 
What's at stake…In addition to a key four points being up for grabs in the SUNYAC playoff race, a total of two points are on the line in the "Battle by the Lake" season-long competition. Buffalo State and Fredonia are currently tied at 6-6 after seven competitions so far this season.

Up next…The "Battle by the Lake" series will return on Saturday, Feb. 22 as Buffalo State's men's and women's basketball teams travel to Fredonia for a SUNYAC doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
 
Established for the 2014-15 season, the "Battle by the Lake" is a season-long "all sports" competition between Buffalo State and Fredonia. Each sport in which the two schools compete is worth two points annually. The school with the most points at the end of the season will earn the Lake Erie Cup and keep the cup on its campus for the following year (non-conference and postseason matchups will not count toward the Lake Erie Cup competition).
