Hannah Gallivan (Buffalo/Kenmore West) scored her first collegiate goal in the second period, but it was not enough as Buffalo State dropped a 2-1 loss to SUNY Canton in the team's first action of the New Year today at the Castleton Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Canton outshot the Bengals 12-3 in the first period and were rewarded with a power-play goal with just five seconds remaining to take an early lead.
- Buffalo State used timely saves by Bri Gawronski (Dunkirk/Mt. Mercy) in the opening minutes of the second frame to keep the score intact as the Roos tallies six shots in the first five minutes of action.
- The Bengals evened the score with just 3:36 left in the second period as Gallivan scored off assists by Sarah Jackson (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Kiara Haynes (Littleton, CO/Dakota Ridge).
- Canton reclaimed the lead just over two minutes later to take a 2-1 lead into the final intermission.
- Buffalo State had multiple scoring chance in the final period, including a pair of power-play chances, but failed to breakthrough as Canton completed the non-conference win.
- Gawronski finished with a game-high 34 saves in net for the Bengals as Canton finished with a 36-22 advantage in shots on goal.
- Canton finished 2-2 on power-play chances, while the Bengals finished 0-6.

- Sirena Alvarez tallied 21 saves in net for Canton.
