SUNY Poly surges past Women’s Lacrosse, 13-11

BUFFALO, N.Y.—SUNY Poly scored the first seven goals of the second half and held on for a 13-11 victory over host Buffalo State in a non-conference game today at Coyer Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mary Musialowski (Lancaster/Sacred Heart) registered her second five-goal game of the season and added an assist to lead the Bengals' offense.
  • Samantha Burlow (W. Seneca/Buffalo Seminary) scored twice and added three assists.
  • Erica Kennedy (Irving/Lake Shore) had a goal and two assists, Julia Wachna (Syracuse/Onondaga) scored twice, and Maddy Brzezicki (W. Seneca/W. Seneca East) had one goal and one assist.
  • Buffalo State dominated the opening 10 minutes of the game and led 2-0 before the Wildcats bounced back to even the score. The Bengals closed the half with a 3-1 run, however, to lead 5-3 at the intermission.
  • SUNY Poly used a 7-0 run in the first nine minutes of the second half to take its first lead and would never surrender the advantage.
  • Buffalo State cut the deficit from five down to just one at 11-10 with 11:57 remaining, but the Wildcats held strong down the stretch, netting two more goals before conceding the Bengals' final goal with just 13 seconds remaining.
  • Janae Nelson (Elmont/Elmont Memorial) finished with 12 saves in the loss with the Bengals holding a narrow 32-31 edge in shot attempts, despite being outshot 22-11 in the second half.
  • SUNY Poly had a 16-10 advantage in draw controls.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Emily Somes led the Wildcats with six goals.
  • Molly Burdick and Kayla Prosinski finished with three goals and one assist apiece, and Jasmin Brown had a goal and two assists.
