Women's Soccer Falls 2-1 to New Paltz in Double Overtime

NEW PALTZ, NY – Bella Vene (Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) made a career-high 23 saves, but the Buffalo State women's soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to New Paltz on the road Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gioeli gave the Bengals an early 1-0 lead in the 10th minute on the only shot attempt of the game for Buffalo State.
  • Vene made seven saves in the first half to help Buffalo State hold the advantage into half-time.
  • New Paltz pressed for the equalizer the entire second half, peppering the Bengals' net with 24 shot attempts in the frame.
  • In the 75th minute, the Hawks finally broke through to tie the game, as Lisette Palomo scored to even the score at 1-1.
  • Vene made 10 saves in the second half, including a few to keep the game tied in the final fifteen minutes of regulation.
  • Vene came up with six more saves in the first overtime period.
  • With six minutes remaining in the second overtime, the Hawks scored the game-winning goal for the victory.
  • New Paltz outshot Buffalo State 51-1, with a 26 shots on target to one advantage.
