BUFFALO, NY – Despite setting three individual tournament records, the Buffalo State men's basketball team fell to John Carroll University 93-84 in their final game of the 2021 Community Health Center of Buffalo Classic on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
- Sheldon Adams set the individual record for most points in a tournament, tallying 32 points as an encore to his career-high 39 points last night. His 71 points in the two games breaks the record of 63 set by John Russell of Daemen College in 1990.
- Philbert Weekes (Brooklyn, NY/Lafayette) shared in the record-breaking day, grabbing 28 boards to set the single-game tournament record. His 49 rebounds in the two days shattered the old record of 43 set in 2010. He also ties a Buffalo State program record, shared by Greg Miller against Utica in the 1977-78 season. He also contributed 17 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the floor.
- Aaron Davis (Beacon, NY/Beacon) finished with 12 points, and led Buffalo State with seven assists and three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Buffalo State led most of the first half after jumping out to a 20-15 lead thanks to a 3-pointer by Davis just over five minutes into the game.
- A jumper by Tyron Smith (New York, NY/Thurgood Marshall) stretched the Bengals' lead to 39-33 with under six minutes left in the half.
- The Blue Streaks responded with a 7-0 run to take a 40-39 lead with under four minutes left in the half.
- The teams traded baskets for the next three minutes until a jumper by Jackson Sartain with two seconds left in the first half gave John Carroll a 49-47 lead into the break.
- John Carroll came out of halftime firing, using a 12-0 run to open up a 14 point lead in the first three minutes of the half.
- The lead grew to as many as 21 after a William Wallace jumper with under 15 minutes left.
- The Bengals clawed back, cutting the lead to 81-77 after a pair of free throws by Adams with five minutes remaining.
- The Blue Streaks were able to reestablish a 10-point cushion, and the Bengals could not get within nine points the rest of the way.
FOR THE FOES
- Sartain finished with 27 points on an impressive 11-for-13 shooting performance and eight rebounds to lead the Blue Streaks in both categories. He also knocked down five of his seven 3-point attempts.
- William Wallace pitched in 15 points off the bench for John Carroll.
