BUFFALO, N.Y. – Sophomore Samantha Coakley (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) of the volleyball team and senior Pa Lu (Buffalo, N.Y./International Prep) of the men's soccer team were honored by Buffalo State Athletics, as the pair are named Bengal Athletes of the Week on Monday. The award honors the best two student-athletes in the week ending on Sunday, Nov. 7.
 
A criminal justice major, Coakley made her postseason debut last Tuesday and had a solid outing, tallying eight kills while hitting a team-best .286 in 21 chances. The sophomore also added a dig and a service ace.

The Bengal volleyball team, seeded sixth in the SUNYAC Tournament, fell to third-seeded Brockport in three sets in the quarterfinal matchup, finishing its season at 11-13. The 11 wins are the most for the program in six years and 'State made its first appearance in the conference tournament since 2014.
 
The Bengals finished eighth at the SUNYAC Championships on Saturday and will compete against the region's best at the NCAA Division III Regionals, hosted by Geneseo on Saturday, Nov. 13.
 
Lu, a sociology major, scored an 82nd-minute goal in his final game as a Bengal, as the team competed against eventual SUNYAC champion Cortland on Wednesday. Lu's goal was the first of the season, and he finishes a three-year career with four goals and three assists in 30 games played.
 
The Bengal men's soccer team finished the 2021 season with a 13-6-1 record, falling to top-seeded Cortland by a 2-1 score in the SUNYAC Semifinal last Wednesday. The Bengals have won 10+ games in each of the last six seasons.
