Men's Hockey Drops SUNYAC Matchup against Brockport 6-1

BUFFALO, NY — Brockport scored four goals in a span of five minutes in the second period to take control of the game in a 6-1 victory over the Buffalo State men's hockey team on Friday evening at the Ice Arena.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jared Figueroa (Scotch Plains, NJ/Florida Eels) scored the lone goal for Buffalo State in the defeat.
  • Joel Frazee (Monroe, MI/Shreveport Mudbugs) and Michael McCosh (Glendale, AZ/New Mexico Ice Wolves) picked up the assists on the goal. McCosh also won 13 of his 16 faceoff attempts.
  • Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) stopped 13 of 14 shots on goal, and Connor Minch (Manchester, NH/Islanders Hockey Club) made 19 saves in relief over the final 33 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Brockport struck for the first goal just 62 seconds into the opening period as Mitchell Parson flicked a backhanded shot past Norrman off a breakaway created by a pass from Ryan Romeo.
  • Buffalo State equalized just after the five-minute mark of the period, as a strong forecheck from Frazee allowed the Bengals to regain possession of the puck. Figueroa skated behind the Brockport net and emerged out front to rip a shot just over the goaltender's shoulder and into the top corner of the net.
  • Midway through the opening period, Nikita Kozyrev (Tallinn, Estonia/Springfield Jr. Blues) was denied on a breakaway after an excellent pass by Connor Bizal (Elk River, MN/Boston Jr. Rangers).
  • The teams entered the first intermission with the score locked at 1-1.
  • The Golden Eagles took advantage of the impromptu goalie change, scoring four goals in succession after the switch to take a 5-1 lead into the second intermission.
  • Brockport added another goal late in the third period for the final tally of the night.

FOR THE FOES
  • Six different players scored for Brockport, and six players also registered multiple points.
  • Nolan Egbert stopped 27 of 28 shots for the victory in goal.
