ROCHESTER, N.Y.— The Buffalo State volleyball team opened the season tonight, falling to the University of Rochester in three sets in the opening match of the University of Rochester Invitational.

HOW IT HAPPENED
o Alena McKelvey (Buffalo, NY/City Honors) led the Bengal attack with nine kills. She also had six digs and one service ace.
o Eden Harrison (Eldersburg, MD/Century) had eight kills on only 17 attacks with two attack errors for a team-high .353 hitting percentage.
o Jenna Hugenschmidt (Clarence Center, NY/Clarence) paced the defense with 16 digs and added one service ace.
o Riley Domin (Getzville, NY/Williamsville South) dished out 16 assists for the Bengals.
o Buffalo State led 14-12 in the first set, but the Yellowjackets scored 13 of the last 18 points to take the set..
o A three point run, highlighted by kills from Kayla Wolinski (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) and Liz Schultheis (Holley, NY/Brockport) in the second set tied the score at 12-12 before Rochester took control for a 25-17 victory.
o Down 6-2 in the third set, the Yellowjackets went on a seven point run to take a lead that they never relinquished the rest of the match.
FOR THE FOES
o Megan Gatz and Ella Sokolowski each finished with 11 kills to lead Rochester.
o Zaira Reyes had 34 assists for the Yellowjackets.
