Women's Soccer Loses Home Opener to Utica

BUFFALO, N.Y. The Buffalo State women's soccer team dropped a non-conference matchup with Utica, 5-0, at Coyer Field on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BENGAL BOX SCORE
  • Junior goalkeeper Bella Vene (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) made 12 saves for the Bengals.
  • Alexis Hults (Schenevus, N.Y./Schenevus) had the lone shot on goal for Buffalo State.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Buffalo State had an opportunity to take the early lead in the 8th minute as Macey Gioeli (N. Tonawanda, N.Y./N. Tonawanda) got behind the defense. Her shot beat the goalkeeper, but bounced off the right post and back into play. Seconds later, Hults had an attempt on goal that was saved well by the keeper. 
  • The Pioneers took the lead in the 12th minute after Ro Hernandez slotted home a pass from Sydney Cook just out of the reach of Vene. 
  • Utica doubled their lead late in the first half as Hope Millets dribbled past a defender and tucked the ball just inside the left post. 
  • Hernandez added her second goal, assisted once again by Cook, in the 53rd minute. Four minutes later,  Cook added a goal of her own. 
  • Jacinta Kaminski completed the scoring for the Pioneers in the 72nd minute with a blast from the right edge of the box into the top left corner of the net. 
  • Utica outshot Buffalo State by a 32-3 margin.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Hernandez finished with two goals for the Pioneers.
  • Cook had two assists to go along with a goal for Utica. 
  • Four different players scored goals for Utica.
  • Karen Troche earned the victory in goal, saving one shot in 90 minutes. 
 
UP NEXT
The Bengals return to action for a non-conference matchup against Cazenovia on Tuesday evening at Coyer Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
