BUFFALO, NY — The Buffalo State men's hockey team fell to Fredonia, 5-1, in the Battle by the Lake on Friday evening at the Ice Arena.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Joel Frazee (Monroe, MI/Shreveport Mudbugs) scored the lone goal for Buffalo State, his team-leading eighth goal of the season.
- Roger Powers (Pittsford, NY/SUNY Canton) and Troy Button (Royal Oak, MI/Elliot Lake Wildcats recorded assists on the goals.
- Emil Norrman (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Dells Ducks) stopped 27 of 30 shots for Buffalo State.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The teams played a scoreless opening period, with Fredonia outshooting Buffalo State 11-9 in the period.
- Buffalo State's best opportunity came in the last minute of the first period, as Jared Figueroa (Scotch Plains, NJ/Florida Eels) sent a shot just over the crossbar on a breakaway.
- Fredonia wasted no time finding the back of the net in the second period, as Kieran Furlonger ripped a shot past Norrman just 42 seconds into the period.
- Fredonia doubled its lead almost seven minutes later off of a deflected shot by Ethan Kirbis.
- Buffalo State pulled to within 2-1 just past the halfway point of the period, as Button found Frazee with an outlet pass, who was able to sneak a rebound into the net after having his initial shot stopped by Fredonia goalie Logan Dyck.
- Just over 10 minutes into the third, Fredonia added another goal when Craig McCabe tapped in a great feed from Jake Blackwell.
- The Blue Devils added two empty net goals in the final two minutes, including a goal by the goalie to seal the 5-1 victory.

- In addition to his goal, Dyck made 38 saves to record the win in net.
- Five different players scored for the Blue Devils.
BATTLE BY THE LAKE SCOREBOARD
Fredonia extended its lead to 7-4 in the 2021-22 competition, with 14 events remaining. Three more Battle by the Lake events take place next weekend, with men's hockey, and men's and women's basketball heading to Fredonia next Friday night.
